While the segment was fun and funny, do we really think of that as "liberty," hiding from the government to protect what is ours?!?!?! NO! HELL NO! I call that "house arrest."
I am sorry to say that in that case all of life is "house arrest". After all why do you have walls or doors in your house? Why do you cover your windows? Is it only to protect you from the elements? No - it is mainly to stop other people peeking in and looking into your private business. This is life. In order to seperate yourself from prying eyes and ears you have to actively work to protect your privacy using different technology as means to do this. Calling life "house arrest" seems like a very grim perspective on living.
Of course we would all rather not have to protect our privacy. But the point is that we have to do it whether we want it or not. The analogy is the same with guns - we would rather not have to have guns for protection. It would be much better if all human beings rejected aggression and violence. But that's not going to happen anytime soon because others can profit by aggression just like they can profit by finding out other people's secrets. So thank goodness for technology - I agree with Adam 100%.
