I think this is a fantastic concept. Unlimited , free, energy from an unknown source to power something or many things, indefinitely, without using up another resource to make it. Take for instance, the ideas that Tesla came up with. Those are revolutionary and I believe that he fully succeeded in making them a reality. I want to re-create this. Just think of a world where you don't have to worry about leaving the lights on, or energy bills. Imagine how much you could save in monetary funds everyday.

If any of you want to help me in my endeavor, please, feel free to let me know. A collective is better than one after all.

What do you mean be "free energy"? If you mean a self-sustaining power source that costs nothing to run, then good luck with that. Of-course you have wind and solar power that use freely available power sources (wind/sun) so you can run them with only the cost of maintenance, but those are not very good.

You might want to consult John Galt. ;)

There are other freely available sources, such as the earth's magnetic field and gravity. Perform a search for perpetual motion machines sometime. It can be fascinating stuff and certainly a way to waste a day of researching.

Gravity: It requires more energy to lift something than can be taken from the gravitational potential energy.

Magnetic field: The Earth's magnetic field doesn't release any energy.

From my understanding, no, you cannot get energy from the Earth's gravity or magnetic field.

Perpetual motion is not possible considering resistance. Trying to take energy out of a perpetual motion machine would introduce resistance.

I think nuclear fusion is perhaps our best hope for cheap energy in the future. It needs to be made more efficient than any current attempts. Past fusion, you may try looking for ways to convert mass almost entirely into the energy form you want. Anti-matter completely obliterates normal matter but then you have to make the antimatter which will take a lot of excess energy and therefore may not be feasible.

Some food for thought:

Never say something is impossible. They said men couldn't fly. They said men couldn't land on the moon. I was listening to Coast to Coast the other day and they've found tools to build atoms on top of one another.

Maybe someone should show me where that video actually demonstrates how new energy is possible? I got bored with the endless talk about random shapes and gave up when it got to the aliens.

I think BurnedRemains wasn't talking about new energy but rather an abundant energy source that would make energy virtually free.

As for actual free energy, the notion goes against the first law of thermodynamics. But I have watched some documentaries that mention quantum mechanics and say that essentially anything is possible providing you have the means. I remember a mention on quantum fluctuations where energy can be created from nothing. So I guess quantum mechanics invalidates thermodynamics...

It's far from free energy, but a great direction to move in from where we are now (IMO) is Thorium as nuclear fuel. It is cleaner, more abundant, can be used to burn off some of our waste (and reclaim some medical isotopes in the process), and some existing reactors can be converted to use Thorium as fuel.
